As some of you know I've been working on writing screenplays of The Illuminatus! Trilogy. I've just about finished a working version of the first book although there are some parts that I am unsure about. Any help would be extremely welcome! There's also a searchable pdf of the books here:

http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/archivos_pdf/illuminatus_trilogy.pdf

1.      ""Never mind that. Who the hell are you and how did you get into my head?” Page 67. Who is George Dorn talking with? Possibly Simon Moon’s head leaking into his?

2.      "It all depends on whether the fool has wisdom enough to repeat it” “Quiet, idiot—he can hear us!” Page 68. Who’s saying this?

3.      "The face of the monk from his dream pursued him. He had seen that face somewhere before, he knew; but where?” Page 73. Who is it that George Dorn has seen?

4.      "Just then a tiny Volkswagen inched past their VW bus, like an infant running ahead of its mother, and Kent looked bemused. “Did you check out that cat at the wheel? I saw him once before, and never forgot it because he was acting so weird. It was in Mexico City” Page 114. Who is driving the car that overtakes Clark Kent?

5.      "And five years later, those two faces came back: the priest, angry and dogmatic, demanding obedience, and, and the bandit, sardonic, encouraging cynicism, and Joe understood that he might someday have to kill Hagbard Celine.” Page 135. Where is Joe Malik, and who are the two faces. Maybe Padre Pederastia and John Dillinger?

6.      "Actually, after they immanentized the Eschaton, I found out where my head was leaking that night.” Page 145. Where is Simon Moon when he is saying this?

7.      "The wagon started with a jerk” Page 180. What is the wagon?

8.      "You’ve got to run very fast to catch up with the sun. That’s the way it is, when you’re lost out here, the old woman said, stressing the last five words in a kind of childish singsong....The woods were incredibly thick and dark, but Barney Muldoon stumbled after her....” Page 204. Where is this and who is the old woman?

9.      "THIS IS THE VOICE OF YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER MAN SPEAKING. YOU MUST REALIZE THAT YOU ARE NOT JOSEPH WENDELL MALIK.” Page 219. Who’s speaking and where? Is it Doc Iggy at The Norton Cabal for Joe’s illumination?

10.  "Dillinger’s breathing slows down. He stares at the ruby eye atop the 13-step pyramid hidden in the UN building, and he thinks of pentagons.” Page 225. What’s happening here? Is Dillinger being initiated?

11.  "Simon grins, gunning his VW around a Chevrolet with Oregon license plates” Page 230. Who’s driving in the Chevrolet?

12.  "RAMA RAMA RAMA HAAAAARE” Page 241. Is this the band The Plastic Canoe playing at Woodstock Europa or Allen Ginsburg singing at the Democrat National Convention?

13.  "Squinks? It all began with the squinks—and that sentence is more true than you will realize until long after this mission is over, Mr. Muldoon.” Page 262. Who is saying this and where?

Then there’s these 10 small bits of writing that start off with a word in capitals and then a very brief sentence. I don’t know who is talking or where? I think they might be related to Josephine Malik..."Josephine Malik lies trembling in bed, trying to be brave, trying to hide her fear. Where, now, is the mask of masculinity?" Page 272.

1. “FIVES. SEX. HERE IS WISDOM. The mumble of the breast is the mutter of man.” Page 259.

2. “I. THE FAUST PARSON, SINGULAR. Napalm sundaes for How Chow Mein, misfortune’s cookie.” Page 272.

3. “ORGASM. HER BUBBIES FRITCHID BY THE GYNING DEEP-SEADOODLER. All in a lewdercrass chaste for a moulteeng fawkin.” Page 286.

4. “QUEENS. Psychoanalysts in living cells, moving in military ordure, and a shitty outlook on life and sex, dancing coins in harry’s Krishna. It all coheres, even if you approach it bass ackwards. It coheres.” Page 291.

5. “NOTHUNG. Woden you gnaw it, when you herd those flying sheep with wagner’s loopy howls? Hassan walked this loony valley, he had to wake up by himself.” Page 292.

6. “RAGS. Hail Ghoulumbia, her monadmen are fled and all she’s left now is a bloody period.” Page 292.

7. “UNHEIMLICH. Urwater whose art’s uneven, horrid be thine aim. Harpoons in him, corpus whalem: take ye and hate.” Page 293.

8. “SIMON MAGUS. You will come to know gods.” Page 298.

9. “VECTORS. You will come to no gods.” Page 298.

10. “WEISHAUPT. Fnords? Prffft!” Page 303.

Thanks!

I am impressed...

 Keep going Fuzzbuddy!

I will try to put my mind to those last enigmatic bits of Illuminatus! (when I get a break from my own humble script).

PS: The formatting seems to have gone crazy...

Oh, and that link won't let me in.

Perhaps you have to share the document or something (?)

Thanks Bogus!

Thanks for the encouragement and any help when you get a chance would be cool.

Dogspeed on your script Bogus! I only saw the piece you wrote about it (or some other project?) only recently on the forum, sounded interesting! Can't find where that was now?

I've gone and changed the link for the pdf of the books, probably better now. Funny the one I had put up (google docs) was one you e-mailed me ages ago.

Yeah, sorry about the formatting, not sure why its funky, I copy/pasted from Word again.

Illuminatus! comic covers

Still haven't tracked any of the comics (by Icarus 23) down, but I bet they'd be a fun read:

I think he has commented on Only Maybe at some stage.

Sheeit! man - sorry 'bout that!

I thought I had mentioned that I had tracked down copies of those.

I think I sent Bobby a set (but I can be crap at addresses) and I still have a set of the three published, which I could pass on to you.

They're fantastic!

As compression of the ideas, and grasp of the plot, they seem amazing to me.  I'm just sorry he never completed the series.  I thought you were in touch with the artist (about the fourth edition that never happened) etc.

Given that I saw the ten hour (five play) version that Ken Campbell produced, and even the (more compressed) two and a half hour version (probably incomprehensible to anyone but those who knew the books) at The Roundhouse I remain stunned that anyone can extract something meaningful from that wonderful maelstrom.

His Hagbard remains more muscular and Norwegian than Neal Cunningham's ambisexual Hagbard, and so on, but really we can't quibble about details.

If they would help with your script then I should mail them on...Just PM a current mailing address.

It's cool

Yeah you did say you had copies Bogus, to be honest I had nearly forgotten about the comics since looking into it about June last year. I've just managed to track down 2 issues from an online comic book shop database, so that's progress. Thanks, I'd love to borrow the 3rd comic from you sometime. Not entirely sure which two issues I ordered at this stage, they had different covers but not much description.

Question #4.  I think the Dealy Lama drives the car, but he looks like Jean Paul Sartre.
